It's come to my attention that some people think that I've been dissing networking as something that doesn't work. I can certainly see why they would think that based on some of my posts. But let me explain where I'm coming from...
You see, I spend many years in a leadership position in a large, international networking organization. I watched hard-working, earnest business professionals network effectively and grow their business and profits. It was fun to watch and celebrate their milestones and success.
But there were just as many who didn't experience great success, for whatever reason.
If networking alone works so well, why do so many organizations (Chambers, networking groups, etc) have membership drives with a speaker giving the presentation on the benefits of membership? Shouldn't they be able to network their way to the size they want?
Here's my point: Networking is only one of 3 ways to move from invisibility to visibility to credibility and finally to profitability. It's not the be-all, end-all! But neither are the 2 business growth models I talk about: speaking and sponsoring.
It's the combination of all three that can propel you and your business to a greater level of success faster, easier, and more efficiently than just networking alone.
So if networking alone is working great for you, congrats! I am happy for you! But you are NOT the person I'm reaching out to.
I'm reaching out to those that networking alone isn't working for... those who are looking for alternatives to add to their marketing arsenal that will help them get more out of their time, energy, and efforts.
If you are one of these people, my messages are for you. Are you ready to have a serious conversation about how speaking-and sponsoring-can impact your business and bottom line? If so, we should definitely talk.
