Do you ever get so caught up in your work that you forget the reason behind the work?
I'm not talking about being a success. The ego. The recognition. Or even the money.
I'm talking about our family. We want to offer love, financial security, and a great example to our family.
But sometimes the messages get mixed up. On the road to "success", we can inadvertently make our family feel like they are a nuisance or inconvenience... the exact opposite of the message we want to send!
Set a time to quit each day, just like you would if you had a regular job. Thirty minutes before quitting time, check to see if there is anything that absolutely has to be done, calls to be made, etc. Do them. Move everything else to tomorrow. It will still be waiting for you in the morning. Don't participate in "work-creep".
Spend the rest of the time with your family. Be present when they talk to you. Go outside. Play a game. Have them read you a book. Ask about their homework. Get them involved in some type of outdoor activity. Turn off all techie games and gadgets, including the TV. Laugh. Sing. Tell stories about you, your parents, or your grandparents. Go to a park. Visit a neighbor.
Don't let work become more important than the people you love. Set aside time to do both and you'll create a warm, harmonious environment where everyone thrives.
