My house needs to be "refreshed". The wear and tear over the past 25 years have taken a toll and I am finally motivated to do something about it. Oh yes, I could have replaced carpets, etc., during that time but, we love to vacation. So we'd make the choice:
Christmas in New York City or new carpet?
Christmas in Key West or new carpet?
Two-week road trip out west or new flooring for the kitchen?
The trips always won. Why? Because we realized that home improvements could wait but building wonderful memories with our kids couldn't. To this day, I am happy with the choices we made.
But, let me get back to "refreshing" my home. I am looking for sites I can visit to get ideas on how to turn some of our "old" things into "newer" looks. You know, the trash-to-treasure option.
I'm not crafty or very handy, but I'm willing to learn. I know how to paint, basic sewing, and a few other minor skills. So the ideas need to be relatively easy!
Here's an example of a used dining room chair that I "refreshed". If you don't count the drying time, it took less than 30 minutes, including sanding! This chair is going into a bedroom I'm redoing. Here's the before and after pictures:
When I find a used dresser, I'll paint that black and add brushed silver knobs and handles. The walls will be a pale gray; curtains and bedding match the pillow on the chair. I'll make throw pillows in the print pattern to add interest. I already have a couple of purple and gray throw pillows for the bed. I'm still working on a headboard... I'll post pics when the room is all done!
I am great at copying and modifying - not great at coming up with original decorating ideas. Where do you get your ideas? I'd really love to know so I can "refresh" our house and make it feel all grown up!
