Social media - love it or hate it, it's here to stay!
Here's the #1 reason why I love being connected - responsiveness!
When I have a question, I want an answer. Now.
When I find something exciting to share, I want to tell others about it. Now.
When I need help or recommendations, I want them. Now.
And when I'm feeling lonely or like I need to interact, I can do so. Now.
Here's 3 examples of why I love social media:
1. I was in a hotel room while traveling and was feeling a little disconnected. I grabbed my ipad, plopped on the bed, and turned on the singing competition show that was airing that night. I started posting about the contestants, song choices, and comments from the judges. Within a few seconds, an engaging conversation erupted. It was fun. It was immediate. And I felt better.
2. I just started a 90-day challenge to lose weight. I posted my goals online and asked for suggestions and tips that had worked for others. Great ideas began flowing and I've learned a lot. I'm especially excited to start yoga in the privacy of my own home, thanks to one person in particular.
3. I was debating on 3 different autoresponder/emailing companies to use for my company. In my status update, I asked people which they had chosen and why. The comments shared gave both pros and cons to each program, told me what to look for, what to avoid, and why they loved the one they'd chosen. Their comments helped me choose the right one for me.
How do you use social media? Are you using it to pitch or sell? To uplift? To educate? To engage others?
Take 15 minutes and write down 3 questions you can ask in your status update... Choose topics that are relevant to where you want help and ideas. Each day, post one of them. Be sure to go in during the day and read the comments shared and add your own along the way.
I believe you'll be surprised at how quickly people share because they truly want to help. And how much, even in an "online" world, we still truly need each other.
That's why I love social media.
