Oprah became a legend because she magnified 2 of her greatest strengths:
1. Genuinely caring about and for others
2. Asking great questions to gain understanding, not pass judgment
She asked the questions we wanted to know the answers to and then listened carefully before asking her next question. She led with her heart, was willing to bear her soul - even when it hurt - and did all of this with love and compassion. We laughed with her. We cried with her.
Love her or hate her, her style made an impact. Most importantly, she showed us that we can be successful by lifting up others.
Think about your clients, customers, family, and friends. How can you apply some of Oprah's "magic" into your own life? How can you ask better questions? Listen more intently? And serve with your heart?
The virtues of compassion, genuinely caring, and not passing judgment are skills we can develop with a little thought and planning. When we lead with our hearts, we'll touch more lives. And this may make 2013 our most fulfilling year yet!
