Each one of us will face a point in our businesses when we become frustrated, paralyzed, and maybe even wonder why we do what we do. That's normal because our businesses are living, breathing entities that evolve over time, just like we do as people.
I've found that we hit this point more often when we allow ourselves to become distracted by everything out there and try to offer more to more people. This method may sound logical but the reality is, true success comes when we offer less to fewer people.
Let me share a personal example: I thought that I should offer online training, direct mail, and all the other ways speakers could market their services. I was constantly jumping from one thing to another with very little to show for my time.
Then I was taught how to design a really "tight" marketing funnel. I developed offers, products, and programs for each funnel level based on my core business - helping business professionals grow their businesses faster and easier by speaking to groups of their target market and monetizing each opportunity. Although at first glance it may seem limiting, it has actually opened doors and attracted many more clients than my "wide" vision.
All opportunities presented to me are compared to my funnel - is it a good fit? If so, then I'll look into it much deeper. If not, I say thank you and see if I can refer them to someone who does fit what they are looking for.
There are many paths we can take, but we can't take all of them. Look closely at your business - what do you do really well? What results can people expect when working with you and/or your products or services? Step into that area of expertise and OWN IT!
You'll experience fewer distractions, less frustration, and more time spent on doing your best work.
