It seems that there is a new strain of noxious pigweed that gets so big, it takes over entire fields. The tap root is a whooping 5 feet long, is a tremendous seed producer, and has outstanding drought resistance. One farmer stated that in an 180 acre soybean field, he lost their pickup because the monster pigweed hid it from view! Sounds like a sci-fi late-night movie! But it's real and spreading.
So what does this have to do with you and your business? Keep reading...
As I consult with business owners in a variety of industries, there are similarities in why they aren't achieving the success they want. The most common one is what I'd like to call "monster business pigweed" - it's the feast or famine syndrome caused by a lack of systems, processes, and automation that allow businesses to prosper with predictability.
Highly successful people aren't smarter than us - they just have better systems, processes, and people to delegate the activities to! Often these activities are delegated by outsourcing, not hiring employees!
People start their own business because they love what they do. But operating and growing a successful business requires much more than being good at what you do. It requires you to spend some time thinking about the topics listed below, determining the activities to accomplish these goals, AND automating it through proven processes and systems.
1. Who your best customers are
2. How to attract them
3. How to get them to buy
4. How to develop customer loyalty
5. How to keep them buying
6. How to get them to refer you
7. What needs to be done daily and weekly to achieve this goal
8. How to delegate the tasks and still get results
Actively working on these goals each day is the only way you'll keep the "monster pigweed" under control. Plan your work and work your plan! You'll find that once you get a working system in place that delivers results, it will be easy to either do the activities each week yourself or delegate/outsource them to someone who is competent and effective.
Look through the list again. Which ones are you really good at? Which ones do you struggle with? Which one should you focus on first? Automating specific systems and processes, even in just 15 minutes a day, can produce significantly better results.
You can choose the success of your business by the foundation you build and the activities that support your goals. You can control the "pigweed" or the "pigweed" can take over your business. It's your choice!
