Yesterday I had the opportunity to submit a proposal for a project that I really want to be a part of. It will require only a few hours each week (which works well with my coaching and speaking) and I can do work from home.
I desired to create a proposal that demonstrated my skills and talents in a way that stood out from the crowd without sacrificing credibility or being "cutesy".
This specific project requires someone who has experience and quantifiable results in creating:
- Follow-up email sequences
- Sales pages
- Blog posts
Each element needs to inform, persuade, engage, and transform her target market and audience in a way that motivates them to take specific action.
I searched online for creative proposal samples. There were some good examples that would work in a more creative field like graphic design, not for the project I was applying for. I was frustrated.
Then inspiration hit!
What if I actually created a sales page as my project proposal? This would allow me to actually demonstrate my skills in a way that was directly related to the requirements of the position. So I created a sales page that touched on her "why" by including both the pain and dream scenario.
I submitted it and received a response less than 2 hours later. She loves it and I'm in!
Next time you have the opportunity for a position or project you really want, think outside of the norm. Find a way to demonstrate your skills, not just list them. It will set you apart from the other applicants in a way that "shows", not "tells".
