Let's face it. Getting sick sucks. And when a cold and cough hang on and on and on, well, all I can say is that it bites the big one.
Over two weeks ago I picked up a virus. It likes me so much that I think it's taken up permanent residence! And, combined with asthma, it creates an opportunity to choose the activities I participate in very carefully. Robitussin, echinacea, and Halls drops help, but it's still been a slow road.
So, with my "talking" function severely limited due to lots of coughing, I've had to take a step back to determine what activities are essential that I do and which can I delegate.
What does this have to do with YOUR business?
Life happens. Whether it's sickness, a child's wedding, an exciting vacation, etc. Do you have a plan in place that will keep your business functioning, even when you are gone or have limited time?
Here are 3 steps that will help you create a plan that works. Spend 15 minutes on each area:
1. Determine what tasks are essential. Which activities need to be done, no matter what? Which activities can be skipped for a short period of time?
2. Determine which tasks can be delegated. Train someone to do them well. This can be an employee or someone you outsource work to like a virtual assistant.
3. Teach your people to be solution-driven. When they come to you with problems, ask them to also have 2 possible solutions you can discuss. This keeps them more involved in the learning and problem-solving process. It increases their confidence in handling situations in the way you like plus is frees up more of your time.
Business doesn't stop just because life gets in the way. Having a great plan in place will help you move through life's events with little bumps instead of major crashes.
