Years ago I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. To say that there were plenty of rough edges to smooth out is definitely an understatement... Changing my life wasn't easy, but I was committed and dedicated.
A beautiful woman, Crista Povar, befriended me. She was patient as she taught me a new way to live through her example and love. She is gracious, kind, compassionate, and most of all, she saw me for who I could be, not necessarily who I was.
Because of her unconditional love and belief in me, I grew to believe in myself. Many of the qualities that others admire about me are because of her influence. I am eternally grateful that this incredible woman wrapped her arms around me and walked with me on part of my journey.
Think about the people you will be talking with over the holiday season. It's so easy in our culture to find fault, make fun, and criticize. Often we don't even realize we are doing it! Choose a new path and look for the good, the potential, the gifts, talents, and abilities that each person has. Comment, compliment, and be kind. Change their lives by seeing who they CAN be with just a little encouragement.
Commit to seeing the good in others, in reaching out to pull up, and linking arms with those who cross your path in 2013. What you do will make a difference. Let's work together and change the world, one person at a time.
